Players Honor Jake Burger as 2026 Players Trust Philanthropist of the Year

Each year, shortly before the end of the regular season, active Major League Baseball players from all 30 clubs cast their ballots to recognize the peers they believe have distinguished themselves across the game. The voting process is independently administered, making the Players Choice Awards a reflection of the collective judgment of the players themselves. One of these meaningful honors is the Philanthropist of the Year award.
The Players Trust Philanthropist of the Year award recognizes the community work of individual players, celebrating their altruistic spirit and positive social impact beyond the diamond. The 2026 Philanthropist of the Year is Jake Burger. The Rangers first baseman has worked tirelessly to create opportunities for individuals with Down syndrome and their families through the Burger Family Foundation, which he founded in 2025 alongside his wife, Ashlyn. The foundation provides direct financial assistance and therapy to help lighten the load and ensure that all children have the resources they need to thrive.
Along with Burger, this year’s Philanthropist of the Year finalists were Brewers outfielder Christian Yelich and Cubs starter Matthew Boyd. The Players Trust also recognized Pirates starter Paul Skenes, Reds starter Hunter Greene, and Yankees starter Carlos Rodón as Most Valuable Philanthropists in 2026. All finalists received $10,000 grants from the Players Trust, and as winner, Burger will receive an additional $25,000 grant.
The Players Trust Philanthropist of the Year Award honors a player whose extraordinary commitment to philanthropy has made a lasting impact in communities connected to players. The finalists were all nominated for Most Valu
able Philanthropist awards during the season and are selected by a panel of distinguished former players.
